3A boys: Western recovers to beat Sparks in double overtime

Mauricio Muniz took a pass down the left sideline, made a move past a Sparks defender and converted a goal from about 25 yards in the second overtime, giving the Warriors a 3-2 victory in the Class 3A state semifinals at Bettye Wilson Park.

Class 3A Southern Region: Defense shines as Mojave beats Chaparral

Mojave’s boys soccer team won 11 games this season based on speed, agility and an explosive offense that averaged 5.9 goals per game in the regular season. But in the opening round of the Class 3A Southern Region tournament Tuesday, it was a defensive prowess that led the Rattlers to a 3-1 victory over Chaparral at Bettye Wilson Park.
