The Centennial boys claimed their second straight Class 4A state championship, while the Coronado girls earned their second crown in school history.
Basic’s Raquel Chavez used her change of pace to her advantage in winning the 4A Desert Region girls race at Veteran Memorial Park in Boulder City on Friday.

Arbor View’s Keith Williams led at the front of a pack of five runners early. Eventually, he managed to hold off PahrumpValley’s Bryce Odegard and Centennial’s Alexander Miller in the final quarter mile, putting in a good finishing kick to cross the line in 16 minutes and 13 seconds.
