WRESTLING: Aviyen Gonzales pins his opponent in 22 seconds as Centennial tops Gorman

Aviyen Gonzales won his match at 106 pounds by fall in 22 seconds on Wednesday to lead Centennial’s wrestling team to a 54-23 home win over Bishop Gorman.

Richard Kilgore (170) and Max Barnes (195) also won by pin for Centennial, which won five matches by forfeit.

Bishop Gorman’s Brandon Fernandez (113), Terence Cheng (132), Patrick Woodring (152) and Dylan Auschwitz (160) each won by pin.

Centennial 59, Liberty 15 — At Centennial, Nico Antuna (138), Preston Altman (145) and Arath Rangel (285) all had first-period pins to lead the Bulldogs by the Patriots.

Nicholas Kilgore (152), Manny Lopez (182) and Marco Sandoval (220) also won by pin for Centennial.

Joshua Armstrong (120) and Xiao Wang (195) each won by pin for Liberty.

Basic 56, Desert Pines 24 — At Basic, Sixto Lobaina-Neyra pinned his opponent at 132 pounds in 55 seconds to lift the Wolves over the Jaguars.

Antwonn Dias (113), Nick Ortiz (145) and Ivan Espinoza (182) also pinned their opponent for Basic, which got three forfeits.

Joshua Moran (152), Arnulfo Rodriguez-Chavez (170), Sebastian Rendon-Lopez (195) all won by fall for Desert Pines.

Basic 57, Chaparral 18 — At Basic, Alex Tate (120), Spencer Ortiz (138), Espinoza (182) and Julio Duron (285) all won by fall to power Wolves by the Cowboys.

Basic benefited from six forfeits in the win.

Chaparral’s Keyner Gonzalez (132) and Adam Overbay (152) each won by decision.

Basic 60, Clark 9 — At Basic, Tate pinned his opponent at 120 pounds in 35 seconds, and the Wolves benefited from four forfeits to down the Chargers.

Ortiz (138), Mason Harris (152), Espinoza (182) and Duron (285) also won by fall for Basic.

Clark’s George Alwahyek won a 4-2 decision at 160 pounds.
