Roundup: Centennial wrestling beats 6-time defending state champ

Centennial’s wrestling team won the heaviest six weight classes to knock off six-time defending state champion Green Valley 54-29 in a road dual meet Thursday.

The Bulldogs’ run started with a pinfall victory by Brandon Weber at 160 pounds, then continued with victories by fall by Ike Edwards (170), Richard Kilgore (182), Tyler Roper (195), Robert Hutchings (220) and Izaiah Ieremia (285).

Centennial also received pinfall victories from Omar Gonzalez (106), Nico Antuna (138) and Ryder Marchello (145).

Green Valley’s David Kalayanaprapruit (126) won by technical fall, and Will Zernich (120), Tyler Dockery (132) and Justus Scott (152) won by fall for the Gators.

Durango 60, Moapa Valley 18 — At Durango, Jayden Nersinger won his 220-pound match by fall with 0:00.1 seconds remaining in the second period in the Trailblazers’ victory over the Pirates.

Durango’s Anthony Favela (106), Kaden Renshaw (152), Emil Ubaldo (182) and Frankie Pelton won by fall.

Jorge Cervantes (113) and Gavin Henrie (170) won by fall for the Pirates.

Durango 66, Canyon Springs 15 — At Durango, Kaden Renshaw won his 152-pound match by fall in 15 seconds as the Trailblazers beat the Pioneers.

Brandon Su (120), Robert Gallegos (160), Emil Ubaldo (182), Pelton (195) and Nersinger (220) all won by fall for the Trailblazers.

Tualauta Mann won his 285-pound match in double overtime, 3-2, for the Pioneers. Teammates Emma Justo-Avila (138) and Oscar Pineda (145) won by fall.

Moapa Valley 48, Canyon Springs 24 — At Durango, the Pirates won seven consecutive weight classes by pin as they defeated the Pioneers.

Moapa Valley’s Hayden Redd (152), Gavin Henrie (160), William Uri (170), Cropper Henrie (182), Ryan McMurray (195) and Jackson Mills (220) all won by pinfall.

Canyon Springs received all its points by forfeit.
