VOLLEYBALL: Heavey, Vikings squeak by Skyhawks

Valley’s Marty Heavey had 18 kills, and Jared Marchello added 10 kills Tuesday as the Vikings outlasted host Silverado, 25-22, 25-14, 24-26, 22-25, 17-15.

Alex Sandoval had 41 assists and four aces for the Vikings, and Rodney Quito had 18 digs for Valley.

Tyler Gralapp led Silverado with 13 kills and 16 digs. Kris Coe added 12 kills, Cody Steckel had five kills, 36 assists and 16 digs, and Paul Cote contributed 24 digs for the Skyhawks.

Shadow Ridge 3, Palo Verde 2 — At Shadow Ridge, Quinn Peterson had 20 kills and 13 digs, and Cody Heathcock added 14 kills and two blocks to help the Mustangs to a 22-25, 25-23, 25-23, 15-25, 15-11 win over the Panthers.

N.J. Makaiwi had 39 assists and had 25 digs, and teammate Cutler Leavitt contributed eight kills and 19 digs for Shadow Ridge.

Michael Simister led Palo Verde with 19 kills and 11 digs. Parker Nelson had seven kills for the Panthers, who got 38 assists and six digs from Cole Willson.

Las Vegas 3, Liberty 2 — At Las Vegas, Brandon Kampshoff had 15 kills and 14 digs as the Wildcats held off the Patriots, 14-25, 25-21, 25-19, 23-25, 15-10.

Luis Wong had 29 assists, and Antonio Wong had 28 digs and three aces for Las Vegas. Royce Reyes added 17 assists and six kills for the Wildcats.

Ryan Taggart led Liberty with 17 kills and two blocks. Brandon Baliza added eight kills for the Patriots, and teammate Brycen Ivester had 33 assists.

Basic 3, Durango 2 — At Durango, Matthew Esplin had 14 kills and three blocks, and the Wolves held on for a 25-15, 25-27, 25-21, 22-25, 17-15 win over the Trailblazers.

Bo Peterson had three aces and 17 digs, and Brad McDonald added 24 assists for Basic.

Michael Diggins led Durango with 14 kills, six blocks and two digs. Jaylen Clark had eight kills, two aces and eight digs, and Raymond Guan recorded 35 assists and four digs for the Trailblazers. Nestor Eselu-Rumusod had 17 digs for Durango.

Western 3, Cimarron-Memorial 1 — At Western, William Riggs had 19 assists and five digs to lead the Warriors to a 25-15, 19-25, 25-13, 26-24 win over the Spartans.

Chris Poole had 10 kills, and teammate Sky Tillmond added six kills for Western.

Cimarron’s Stone Stevenson had 20 digs, and Joe Tito notched nine digs and seven kills for the Spartans.

Canyon Springs 3, Sunrise Mountain 0 — At Sunrise Mountain, Maurice Hunter had 11 kills and one block to lead the Pioneers to a 25-11, 25-11, 25-18 sweep of the Miners.

Nathan Eshleman served four aces, and teammate Edward Cromwell had 12 assists for Canyon Springs.

Deshawn Johns had three kills and one ace, and Brian Ramos added three aces and five digs for Sunrise Mountain.

Legacy 3, Bishop Gorman 0 — At Legacy, Anthony Madden and Zaire Franklin each had nine kills and nine digs to lead the Longhorns to a 25-21, 25-19, 25-21 victory over the Gaels.

Anthony Delgado had 26 assists and four digs for Legacy, and Anthony Boone added two kills and two digs for the Longhorns.

Del Sol 3, Chaparral 0 — At Chaparral, La’akea Cabanas had seven kills, seven aces and 13 assists as the Dragons swept the Cowboys, 25-20, 26-24, 25-15.

Kalai Ho added five kills and six digs for Del Sol.

Ben Kirschbaum had nine kills, and teammate Gerardo Skewes-Olvera had four digs for Chaparral.

Tech 3, Desert Pines 0 — At Desert Pines, Bryant Pochop had 10 kills and six digs, and Brian Kaier added seven kills to help the Roadrunners to a 25-18, 25-14, 26-24 sweep of the Jaguars.

Josh Wood had 20 assists, four kills and three aces, and Sir-Isaak Singleton added three kills and two blocks for Tech.
