Girls roundup: Spring Valley defeats Bonanza, Durango

Chelsea Camarra and Aja Melo-Powell each won two individual events and ran on two winning relay teams Thursday to lead host Spring Valley’s girls track team to victory over Bonanza and Durango.

Camarra cleared 4 feet, 10 inches to win the high jump and posted a mark of 14-10¾ to win the long jump. Melo-Powell was first in the 100-meter dash in 13.32 seconds and the 200 in 27.58. Both ran on the Grizzlies’ winning 400 and 800 relay teams.

Hermon Mebrahtu won the 800 (2:37.77) and 3,200 (13:15.49) and ran a leg on the winning 3,200 relay team for Spring Valley.

The Grizzlies had 98 points. Bonanza was second with 45, and Durango took third with 39.

Durango’s Ajanae Cressey won the 100 hurdles (16.79) and 300 hurdles (48.78).

Sunrise Mountain wins tri-meet

At Sunrise Mountain, Kapua Pulotu won the discus (105-7) and the shot put (37-8) to lead Sunrise Mountain to victory over Chaparral and Laughlin.

Dalayna Bolin won the 300 hurdles in 52.18 and ran on the winning 400 and 800 relay teams for the Miners, who finished with 61 points. Chaparral had 59 points, and Laughlin scored 23.

Chaparral’s Naja Muhammad won the 200 (27.02), and teammate Ashley Nicole Silva finished first in the 400 (66.62). Both ran on the Cowboys’ winning 1,600 relay team.
