Girls roundup: Gorman tops Palo Verde, Faith Lutheran

Emilia Puskas won one event and placed second in another to lead Bishop Gorman’s girls track and field team to victory in a three-team meet at Faith Lutheran on Tuesday.

Puskas won the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 27.48 seconds. She also finished second in the 4oo for the Gaels, who finished first with 68 points. Palo Verde was second with 60, and Faith Lutheran had 58.

Lindsey Hightower won the pole vault (10 feet) for the Gaels and finished third in the triple jump and fourth in the long jump.

Gwenavere Bobowicz won the triple jump (35-3) and was third in the 100, and Jill McPherson-Kellogg won the discus (112-6) and was third in the shot put.

Faith Lutheran’s Alexi Johnson won the 100 (12.91) and 400 (1:00.01). Megan Bocobo won the long jump (15-1½) and was second in the triple jump for the Crusaders.

Palo Verde’s Nordia Campbell won the 200 (27.27) and ran on the winning 400 relay team, and teammate Grace Edwards took the 3,200 (12:45.34) and ran on the winning 3,200 relay team.

Sierra Vista tops Spring Valley

At Spring Valley, Baileigh Sundin won the 3,200 (12:20.84), ran on the winning 3,200 relay team and was second in the 1,600 as Sierra Vista topped the Grizzlies, 84-49.

Nichole Patai won the shot put (31-9¾) and discus (80-11), and Sarriah Brown won the 400 (59.8) and ran on the winning 1,600 relay team for the Mountain Lions.

Spring Valley’s Chyna Charles won the 200 (26.89) and ran on the winning 400 relay team.

Las Vegas defeats Canyon Springs

At Canyon Springs, Kristin Small won two individual events to lead Las Vegas to a 60-44 win over Pioneers.

Small won the 200 in 26.5 and the 100 hurdles in 16.4.

Las Vegas’ Khayla Banks was first in the long jump with a distance of 15-2 and second in the triple jump, and teammate Maritzia Robinson traded places with Banks, winning the triple jump (33-7½) and finishing second in the long jump.

The Wildcats’ Priscilla Zamora won the shot put (26-5) and was second in the discus.

Canyon Springs’ Alexyse Lewis won the 100 (12.5) and was second in the 200.

Sunrise Mountain wins home tri-meet

At Sunrise Mountain, Kapua Pulotu won both throws to lead the Miners to victory in a triangular meet against Mojave and Western.

Pulotu threw 107-8 to win the discus and took the shot put with a mark of 36-1.

Dior Griffith-Brown won the 100 (13.35) and was second in the 200 for Sunrise Mountain, and teammate Dalyana Bolin won the 100 hurdles (18.95) and was second in the 100.

Mojave’s Anahi Rosales won the 1,600 (6:00.65) and the 3,200 (13:05.78), and teammate Elena Salazar won the 800 (2:40.49) and was second in the 1,600.

Sunrise Mountain had 71 points. Mojave was second with 61, and Western finished with 13.
