Deborah Grant leads Green Valley girls to win in Sunrise FAST Classic

Deborah Grant swept the sprints on Saturday to lead Green Valley’s girls track team to victory at the Sunrise FAST Classic at Green Valley.

Grant won the 100-meter dash in 12.53 seconds, took the 200 in 25.59 and the 400 in 57.05 for the Gators, who finished with 147 points.

Coronado was second with 131, and Foothill placed third with 76½ in the 13-team meet.

Green Valley’s Mia Smith won the 800 (2:25.27), placed second in the 1,600 and fourth in the 3,200. Emily Marcum cleared 9 feet, 6 inches to win the pole vault for the Gators, who also won the 1,600 relay.

Basic’s Raquel Chavez and Silverado’s Kauilani Misipeka were the only other individuals to win two events in the freshman-sophomore meet.

Chavez won the 1,600 (5:26.63) and 3,200 (12:16.29), and Misipeka was first in the shot put (33-10) and discus (101-9).

Eldorado’s Devyn Swain won the high jump (4-6) and placed second in the long jump and triple jump. Las Vegas’ Maritzia Robinson won the triple jump (33-4) and tied for third in the high jump.

In the boys meet, Tom Dougherty won two distance events to lead Coroando to the team title with 179 points.

Liberty was second with 113½, followed by Las Vegas (80½) and Basic (80).

Dougherty won the 800 in 2:08.76 and crossed first in the 1,600 in 4:42.69.

Dillon Stewart won the 100 (11.14) and was second in the 200 for the Cougars. Justin Watterson added a win in the 300 hurdles (41.43) for Coronado, and teammate Chancelor Willimas was first in the pole vault (11-6).

The Cougars also won the 400 and 3,200 relays.

Las Vegas’ Myles Davis won the 200 (22.95) and 400 (50.36), and Silverado’s Oliver Everett took the long jump (20-9¼) and triple jump (44-8).

Valley’s Christian Franklin won the 3,200 (10:43.32), was second in the 1,600 and third in the 800. Basic’s Donte Fabiyi won the high jump (4-10) and placed fourth in the 300 hurdles.
