TRACK: Desert Oasis, Sierra Vista girls battle to draw
Thursday’s dual meet at Desert Oasis ended in a 71-71 draw between the Diamondbacks and Sierra Vista’s girls track team.
Baileigh Sundin won the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5 minutes, 54.25 seconds, and also took the 3,200 in 12:35.02 for the Mountain Lions. Teammate Kayla Smith also had two victories, claiming the 400 (1:01.3) and long jump (17 feet, 3¼ inches).
Desert Oasis won three of the four relays, failing to capture only the 800 relay.
On the boys side, Nick Benham won both throwing events to help the Diamondbacks edge the Mountain Lions, 77-60.
Benham won the shot put (51-3) and the discus (152-7). He was the only Desert Oasis athlete to win two individual events.
Devin Brice won two events for the Mountain Lions, claiming the high jump (5-8) and long jump (19-11½).
