Thomas Dougherty and Justin Watterson each won two individual events and ran on the winning 1,600-meter relay team Friday to help Coronado’s boys track team win the Sunrise FAST Classic freshman and sophomore meet at Green Valley.
Dougherty won the 800 in 2 minutes, 6.66 seconds and the 1,600 in 4:37.62, and Watterson won the 110 hurdles in 16.66 and the 300 hurdles in 40.87.
The duo helped the Cougars to a total of 136½ points. Las Vegas was second with 106½ points. Green Valley (95), Liberty (68) and Basic (61) rounded out the top five.
Las Vegas’ Miles Davis won the 200 in 23.11 and the 400 in 49.52 and ran on the winning 800 relay team, and teammate Devin Perkins won the 100 in 11.36, was second in the 200 and ran on the winning 400 and 800 relay teams.
Liberty’s Elisaia Silvila-Manu won the shot put with an effort of 41 feet, 10 inches and took second in the discus.
Valley’s Christian Franklin won the 3,200 (10:30.72) and was second in the 1,600.
Eldorado’s Jaleen Lockett won the long jump with a mark of 20-1¼ and tied for second in the high jump.
In the girls meet, Coronado’s Kylee Baird and Ellen Wise each won one event, finished second in another and ran on the winning 3,200 relay team as the Cougars made it a sweep of the team titles.
Baird won the 1,600 in 5.53.72, beating Wise by .01 seconds. Wise returned the favor in the 3,200, winning in 13:04.68 and beating Baird by .13 seconds.
Coronado’s Erin Shannon won the 800 in 2:29.2 and ran on the winning 1,600 and 3,200 relay teams as the Cougars finished with 160 points. Green Valley was second with 140½ with Silverado (72½), Del Sol (68½) and Liberty (64½) completing the top five.
Eldorado’s LaDavia Pierson won the 100 (12.47) and the 200 (25.45).
Green Valley’s Jada Bell won the 100 hurdles in 15.98, ran on the winning 400 relay team and was second in the 300 hurdles.
Silverado’s Tatiana Martinez won the discus (101-4) and was second in the shot put.
