Roundup: Zaylon Thomas helps Centennial boys to win in four-team meet

Zaylon Thomas won two individual events and ran on the winning 1,600-meter relay team Wednesday to help Centennial’s boys track team win a four-team meet at Palo Verde.

The Bulldogs finished with 97 points. Palo Verde was second with 74, followed by Arbor View with 72 and Spring Mountain with 23.

Thomas won the 400 in 50.64 seconds and the high jump by clearing 6 feet. Teammate Jaylen Sanders won the long jump (20-0½) and joined Thomas on the winning 1,600 relay team.

Palo Verde’s Ben Slighting won both the 1,600 (4:36.73) and the 3,200 (9:35.12).

Arbor View’s Chance Bourke won the triple jump (39-2) and was second in the high jump.

Virgin Valley wins three-team meet

At Mesquite, Ty Bryant, Jeremy Perkins and Taua Fiso each won one individual event and finished second in another to help Virgin Valley defeat Cheyenne and Sunrise Mountain.

Bryant won the 110 hurdles in 18.0 and was second in the pole vault. Perkins won the discus (100-3) and was second in the shot put. Fiso won the shot put (40-5½) and was second in the discus.

Virgin Valley finished with 87½ points. Sunrise Mountain had 52, and Cheyenne had 41½.

Sunrise Mountain’s Link Rhodes won the 100 (11.3) and 400 (52.8) and was second in the 200.

Cheyenne’s Michael Reed won the long jump (18-8) and triple jump (38-6¾) and was second in the high jump.

Faith Lutheran captures home meet

At Faith Lutheran, Michael Peck won won event and finished in the top five of two others as the host Crusaders topped Bonanza, Spring Valley, The Meadows and Beatty.

Peck won the long jump with a mark of 20-9¾, placed fourth in the 100 and fifth in the 200 for Faith Lutheran.

Bonanza’s Hans Tanael won the 300 hurdles in 45.51 and cleared 11-6 to win the pole vault. Joey Fox won the 100 in 11.08 for the Bengals and also ran on the winning 400 and 800 relay team.s

Spring Valley’s Jacob Potere won the 800 (2:07.22) and ran on the winning 1,600 and 3,200 relay teams. He also placed third in the 1,600.

Beatty’s Yadir Rodriguez won the high jump (5-10) and was second in the long jump.

Bishop Gorman defeats Desert Oasis

At Desert Oasis, Jake Phllips swept the hurdle events to help Bishop Gorman to a 116-20 win over the Diamondbacks.

Phillips won the 110 hurdles in 16.43 and the 300 hurdles in 43.19.

The Gaels had five athletes each win one event and run on a victorious relay team as Gorman posted a first-place finish in all but two of the 17 contested events.

Desert Oasis’ Isaiah Scoville won the high jump (5-2) and ran on the winning 800 relay team.
