Boys roundup: Michael Canada helps Spring Valley to narrow win

Michael Canada won a pair of events on Thursday to lead the Spring Valley boys track team to a narrow home victory in a three-team meet.

Canada won the triple jump with a mark of 37 feet, 5½ inches, and had a jump of 18-0¼ to take the long jump for the Grizzlies, who had 65 points. Bonanza was second at 64, and Durango had 56.

Jacob Potere won the 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 7.42 seconds and also ran on the winning 1,600 and 3,200 relay teams for Spring Valley. Jonathan Vazquez won the 400 (55.13) and ran on the 1,600 relay team for the Grizzlies.

Bonanza’s Joey Fox won the 100 (11.04), was second in the long jump and ran on the winning 400 and 800 relay teams.

Hans Tanael won the 300 hurdles (44.01) and pole vault (12-9) for the Bengals.

Durango’s Michael Hayword won the high jump (5-4) and placed second in the triple jump, 110 hurdles and 300 hurdles.

Chaparral wins three-team meet

At Sunrise Mountain, Tristan Baker won two events to lead Chaparral to victory in a three-team meet.

Baker won the 3,200 in 12:04.67 and cleared 8-0 to take the pole vault.

Victor Karmee won the 100 (11.99), was second in the 200 and ran on the winning 400 and 800 relay teams for the Cowboys, who had 71 points. Laughlin was second with 41, and the Miners had 40.

Chaparral’s Christian Cayetano won the 110 hurdles (20.5) and ran on the winning 400 relay team, and teammate Victory Sanchez won the shot put (39-2½) and was second in the discus.

Gonzalo Sanchez was first in the 200 (24.05) and 400 (53.12) for the Cougars.
