DIVISION I-A GIRLS: Quick start fuels Mustangs to state title

Frideric Prandecki wasn't about to leave anything to chance.

The first-year Meadows tennis coach made sure his girls team did the exact same things Friday as it did before a 12-0 semifinal win Thursday.

The same breakfast and the same warm up led to nearly the same result.

The Mustangs busted out of the gate with a near-golden first round and raced to an 11-1 lead before settling for a 12-6 win over Faith Lutheran in the Division I-A state title match at Reno Tennis Center.

"We had the same exact breakfast as a day earlier. We came out early, just like yesterday," Prandecki said. "And the girls came out on fire."

They certainly did.

The Mustangs (17-1) dropped only four games en route to grabbing a 6-0 first-round lead. Erika Mauban, Anjali Daulat and Bhavana Janga lost a combined total of one game in singles in the opening round.

"All of our singles played extremely well," Prandecki said. "It was just phenomenal."

Another strong round in singles and near-perfect efforts by the doubles teams of Taler Brazell and Samantha Gondy, and Amanda Brazell and Ava Frazier extended the lead to 11-1 after two rounds, clinching the win.

The Mustangs were 2-0 against the Crusaders in the regular season and beat Faith Lutheran 13-5 in the Southern Region final on Oct. 5.

"There was more pressure on us," said Prandecki, who substituted liberally in the final round. "We had a lot of tight matches with them all season, and we were expected to win."

Taler Brazell and Gondy finished 3-0 in doublesfor the Mustangs. Mauban, Daulat and Janga each went 2-0.

"It's a great feeling," Prandecki said. "Everyone wanted to beat us all year. It was all Meadows, Meadows, Meadows. Practices were tough all year, and my girls delivered. As a coach, it's a dream come true."

Lexi Cubley and Rachel Young were 2-1 in doubles for Faith Lutheran (17-4).
