SOFTBALL: Valley’s Manthei no-hits Basic in five-inning rout

Kristina Manthei threw a five-inning no-hitter on Wednesday to lead Valley’s softball team to a 10-0 victory over visiting Basic.

Manthei struck out six, walked none and hit a batter. She also went 2-for-3 with a double.

Shannon Williams was 3-for-3 with a double and a grand slam for the Vikings.

Gabriella Morales went 3-for-4 for Valley, and her solo homer in the bottom of the fifth ended the game by the 10-run rule.

Liberty 11, Foothill 6 — At Liberty, Ashleigh Rodriguez went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs to lead the Patriots past the Falcons.

Marissa Olmos was 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs for Liberty, and teammate Morgan LaNeve had a double and a triple.

Hannah Stevens, Alexis Farias, Kyle Becker and Kayla King each had two hits for Foothill. Jasmine Dukes had a double and two RBIs for the Falcons.

Green Valley 8, Silverado 4 — At Silverado, Samantha Loving hit a three-run homer in the top of the first, and the Gators held off the Skyhawks.

Loving also pitched four innings of relief to get the win.

Amber Calderon was 2-for-4 for Green Valley, which had seven hits.

Heaven Calhoun was 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI for Silverado, which had 13 hits. Hanna McCall was 3-for-3 with two runs for the Skyhawks, and teammates Korina Pindel and Madison Sisco each went 2-for-4 with a double.

Boulder City 2, Sierra Vista 0 — At Boulder City, Charlene Masterson fired a four-hit shutout to lift the Eagles by the Mountain Lions.

Masterson struck out six and walked one. She also went 2-for-3 with a two-run single in the third inning.

Rancho 9, Las Vegas 0 — At Las Vegas, Samantha Pochop tossed 5 1/3 shutout innings of relief with 12 strikeouts as the Rams beat the Wildcats.

Kayla Coles was 4-for-5 with a double, a triple and two RBIs for Rancho, and Gianna Carosone was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI for the Rams. Rancho’s Katerina Anthony and Jahnae Davis-Houston each added two hits.

Melina Fabian doubled for Las Vegas.

Palo Verde 9, Desert Oasis 1 — At Desert Oasis, Makall Whetten went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs to lead the Panthers by the Diamondbacks.

Kali Tomlinson was 3-for-4 with a run, and Lauryn Barker went 2-for-3 for Palo Verde.

Elsy Guzman and Scarlett Hurtado each went 2-for-3 for Desert Oasis.

Chaparral 14, Mojave 4 — At Chaparral, Alex Montoya went 4-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs as the Cowboys beat the Rattlers in five innings.

Sara Living had an RBI double, and Ninive Valenzuela had two hits for Chaparral, which led 10-2 after four innings.

Losi Brown went the distance for the Cowboys, scattering three hits and striking out seven.

Emilee Mitton hit a double for Mojave.

Eldorado 22, Canyon Springs 12 — At Canyon Springs, Jazmine Sorchini went 4-for-5 with two RBIs as the Sundevils outslugged the Pioneers in six innings.

Kristie Thomas was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs for Eldorado, which used nine runs in the sixth to pull away.

Daisy Arnal supplied three hits and three RBIs, and Emilee Kaye added a double, a triple and three RBIs for Canyon Springs.

Coronado 18, Bonanza 0 — At Bonanza, Brooke Younie smacked a three-run double, and the Cougars scored 12 runs in the second inning en route to the five-inning win.

Tatum Spangler supplied two hits and an RBI, and Krystal Middleton added two hits for Bonanza. Jillian James and Spangler combined on the three-hit shutout.

Ashlee McKenna had two hits for Bonanza.
