SOFTBALL: Legacy tops Faith Lutheran for tournament title

Alyssa Spencer went 2-for-3 with two RBIs Saturday to help Legacy’s softball team to a 6-4 win over Faith Lutheran in the championship game of the Colorado River Invitational in Needles, California.

Haley Pedersen was 2-for-4 and scored twice for the Longhorns, who led 4-0 after five innings and held on.

Claire Peck was 1-for-2 and belted a three-run home run in the sixth inning for Faith Lutheran. Samantha Jack was 2-for-4 for the Crusaders.

Faith Lutheran 6, Silverado 5 — At Needles, California, Haley Jack’s walk-off home run to left-center field with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning sent the Crusaders by the Skyhawks in the semifinals of the Colorado River Invitational.

Silverado led 5-2 entering the bottom of the third inning, but the Crusaders scored single runs in the third, fourth and fifth to tie the game.

Peck was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Mosie Foley and Samantha Jack each went 2-for-3 for Faith Lutheran.

Alessandra Ponce was 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and two RBIs, and Sarah Ford was 2-for-4 with a home run for Silverado.

Faith Lutheran 1, Yucca Valley (Calif.) 0 — At Needles, California, Samantha Jack’s first-inning home run accounted for all of the scoring as the Crusaders nipped the Trojans in the quarterfinals of the Colorado River Invitational.

Samantha Jack, who also doubled, was 2-for-3.

Foley tossed a one-hitter, walking one and striking out nine, for Faith Lutheran.

Legacy 5, Pahrump Valley 4 — At Needles, California, Amanda Sink went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and threw two scoreless innings of relief to help the Longhorns nip the Trojans in six innings in the quarterfinals of the Colorado River Invitational.

Spencer was 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs, and Alyssa Sotelo was 2-for-2 with a double for Legacy.

Centennial 16, Valencia (N.M.) 0 — At Bullhead City, Arizona, Angel Love went 3-for-3 with two home runs, a double and six RBIs as the Bulldogs routed the Jaguars in four innings in the Tournament of Champions.

Skyler Ball was 3-for-3 with an RBI, and Ava Dolan and Christina Cerrone each went 2-for-3 with a double for Centennial.

Deanna Barrera allowed three hits and no walks in four innings to get the win. She struck out three.

Centennial 9, Taylorsville (Utah) 4 — At Bullhead City, Arizona, Ava Dolan was 2-for-3 with a home run, a double and three RBIs as the Bulldogs defeated the Warriors in five innings in the Tournament of Champions.

Love was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Stephanie Day went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Centennial, which scored five runs in the first inning and never looked back.

Coronado 5, Shadow Ridge 2 — At Bullhead City, Arizona, Ashley Ward tossed a six-hitter to lead the Cougars by the Mustangs in the Tournament of Champions.

Tatum Spangler was 2-for-3 with a triple, two runs and an RBI for Coronado. Basia Query was 1-for-2 with two RBIs, and Jaiden Johnson went 1-for-3 with two RBIs for Coronado.

Kate Dennis was 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and teammate Caitlyn Covington went 2-for-2 with a double for Shadow Ridge.

Grantsville (Utah) 10, Green Valley 4 — At St. George, Utah, the Cowboys broke a 3-3 tie with three runs in the third inning and topped the Gators in the March Warm-Up Tournament.

Samantha Loving was 2-for-2 with a home run, a double and two RBIs for Green Valley.

Spring Valley 10, Green Valley 0 — At St. George, Utah, Michaela Hood tossed a five-inning three-hitter to lead the Grizzlies by the Gators in the March Warm-Up Tournament.

Hood struck out seven.

Raven Bierlein was 3-for-4 with a double and four RBIs, and Vivian Quiroz-Montano was 2-for-4 with an RBI for Spring Valley.

Bishop Gorman 10, Desert Oasis 9 — At Gorman, Megan Coyle went 3-for-3 with two doubles to help the Gaels nip the Diamondbacks in the Kick Off the Season Tournament.

Monique Passalacqua was 3-for-3 with a double.

Erin McInerney homered for Desert Oasis.

Bishop Gorman 10, Douglas 9 — At Gorman, Morgan Blanner was 4-for-4 with two runs and a double and drove in the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Gaels nipped the Tigers in the Kick Off the Season Tournament.

Gorman trailed 9-7 entering the bottom of the seventh but tied the game on Coyle’s two-run double. Blanner’s RBI single plated Coyle with the winning run.

Coyle had two doubles, and Samantha Stanfill belted a grand slam for Gorman.

Richland (Wash.) 4, Bishop Gorman 1 — At Gorman, Brandy Andrews threw a three-hitter and struck out nine to lead Richland by the Gaels in the Kick Off the Season Tournament.

Blanner was 2-for-3 for Gorman.

Arbor View 6, Desert Edge (Ariz.) 4 — At Doc Romeo Park, Breanne Henricksen and Kayla Rutledge combined on a two-hitter as the Aggies nipped the Scorpions in the Kick Off the Season Tournament.

Taylor Whalen went 2-for-3 with a double, and Bryce Henricksen and Kellie Anderson each went 2-for-3 for Arbor View, which rallied from a 4-0 deficit.

Round Mountain 20, Sandy Valley 2 — At Laughlin, Arayanna Cuellar had four hits, including two triples and a double, as the Knights routed the Sidewinders in four innings in the Cougar Classic.

Laughlin 19, Sandy Valley 10 — At Laughlin, Jalynn Quibell was 2-for-2 with a triple, a double and four RBIs as the Cougars downed the Sidewinders in three innings in the Cougar Classic.

Round Mountain 10, Tonopah 3 — At Laughlin, the Knights used a seven-run fifth inning to top the Muckers in the Cougar Classic.
