I-A SOFTBALL: Spring Valley nips Sierra Vista

Marlena Adras singled home Madison Hood with the go-ahead run in the bottom of the fourth, and Spring Valley held on to edge visiting Sierra Vista 3-2 on Wednesday in the Division I-A Southern Region softball tournament.

Michaela Hood threw a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts for Spring Valley (23-3), which plays Faith Lutheran (27-8) in the winners’ bracket final at 6 p.m. Thursday at Boulder City.

Raven Bierlein had a run-scoring single, and Stephanie Huff supplied an RBI on a sacrifice for the Grizzlies.

Kalei Watkins went 3-for-3 with a double and a triple for Sierra Vista (22-6), which plays Pahrump Valley (17-11) in an elimination game at 4 p.m. on Thursday at Boulder City.

Faith Lutheran 6, Boulder City 1 — At Boulder City, Mosie Foley tossed a two-hitter and struck out nine to lead the Crusaders by the Eagles in the other winners’ bracket semifinal.

Ellie Fried went 3-for-5 with an RBI, and Ryleigh Gilchrist was 2-for-4 with a run for Faith Lutheran. Claire Peck was 1-for-4 with three RBIs for the Crusaders.

Kylee Hamel was 1-for-3 with a run for Boulder City (26-8), which will face Moapa Valley (17-11) in an elimination game at 2 p.m. Thursday at Boulder City.

Pahrump Valley 4, Sunrise Mountain 1 — At Sunrise Mountain, the Trojans took advantage of two errors to score three runs in the eighth inning to eliminate the Miners.

Lauren Koenig was 2-for-4 and scored the first run in the eighth inning for Pahrump. Darian Collin and Kathy Niles also scored in the eight for the Trojans.

Amy Locklear doubled and scored for Sunrise Mountain (14-11).

Moapa Valley 14, Tech 4 — At Overton, Kyla Shumway and Kessa Evans each went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs to power the Pirates to a five-inning win over the Roadrunners.

Lainey Cornwall was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs, and teammate Aria Messer finished 2-for-3 with three RBIs for Moapa Valley, which used a seven-run third inning to take control.

Julia Lopez had a single and a run to lead Tech.
