McKenna Montgomery tossed a one-hitter Saturday to lead Fernley’s softball team to a 3-0 victory over Churchill County in the Class 3A state championship game at Faith Lutheran.

Montgomery struck out 10 and walked three as the Vaqueros (26-11) claimed their fifth state crown and first since 2013.

Macie Kirk had two hits, scored twice and drove in a run for Fernley.

Stacy Kalt had the lone hit for Churchill County (30-6).
