2015 Faith Lutheran Softball Capsule

FAITH LUTHERAN

Head coach: John Chilman, sixth season

2014 record: 22-14 (10-0 Sunset, first)

Returning letter winners (starters): 10 (five)

Top players: LF Breanna Hemphill (Sr.), 3B Cheyenne Kidd (Sr.), CF Vanessa Valdez (Sr.), P/SS Mosie Foley (Jr.), 1B Samantha Jack (Jr.), C Claire Peck (Jr.)

Outlook: The Crusaders welcome back 10 letter winners, including Valdez (.483 average), Kidd (.356, 9 doubles), Hemphill (.476 on-base percentage), Foley (.371 average), Jack (.333 average) and Peck (.357 average).

Foley struck out 107 in 101.2 innings in the circle.

But Faith Lutheran must make up for the loss of eight seniors, who were responsible for nearly half of the team’s extra-base hits.

“The Crusaders will be young,” Chilman said. “Team chemistry will be an issue early on. While there is a great deal of young talent, the success of the team will depend on teamwork and sacrifice.

“The returning upperclassmen have the talent and ability to lead the newcomers in what it means to be a Crusader. With the additions of Spring Valley and Sierra Vista, the Crusaders will be hoping to make the playoffs in the now competitive Sunset League.”
