SOCCER: Vasquez’s second-half goal lifts Western boys to victory

Martin Vasquez scored the game-winner off a free kick early in the second half Friday to lift Western’s boys soccer team to a 2-1 win at Cheyenne.

Eduardo Arellano added a goal and an assist for the Warriors.

Chase Castro scored for the Desert Shields.

Clark 3, Pahrump Valley 2 — At Pahrump, Kevin Meng’s goal with three minutes left capped a furious comeback that lifted the Chargers by the Trojans.

Clark trailed 2-1 with less than 10 minutes to play before Oscar Mata tied the match, setting the stage for Meng’s winner.

Mata had a goal and an assist for Clark, which also got a goal from David Ginsburg.

Canyon Springs 5, Arbor View 2 — At Canyon Springs, Daniel Moran scored twice to lead the Pioneers by the Aggies.

Luis Macias, Gaspar Gonzalez and Juan Cabral each added a goal for Canyon Springs.

Alfredo Carrera and James Drye scored for Arbor View.

Mojave 4, Adelson School 0 — At Mojave, Cristopher Pulido scored twice to lead the Rattlers past the Lions.

Eduardo Luna and Antonio Perez each had a goal and an assist for Mojave.

Chaparral 9, Payson (Ariz.) 0 — At Show Low, Ariz., Carlos Hernandez had three goals and an assist as the Cowboys overwhelmed Payson in the Show Low Invitational.

Ivan Jaquez had a goal and two assists, and Aldo Skewes had a goal and an assist for Chaparral, which also got goals from Jose Morales, Gavynn Mossiah, Fernando Delgado and Abraham De Lira.

Gerardo Skewes was in goal for the shutout.

Chaparral 7, Desert Christian (Ariz.) 3 — At Show Low, Ariz., Morales and Alex Robledo each scored twice as the Cowboys topped Desert Christian in the Show Low Invitational.

Aldo Skewes and Jaquez each had a goal and an assist for the Cowboys, who also benefitted from an own goal. Omar Miranda had two assists for Chaparral.

GIRLS

Clark 2, Pahrump Valley 1 — At Clark, Darian Gambetta’s goal with three minutes left lifted the Chargers by the Trojans.

Jackie Gonzalez also scored for Clark, which rallied from a 1-0 halftime deficit.

Paige Chafee scored for Pahrump.

Western 4, Cheyenne 2 — At Western, Ellyson Reynada scored four goals to lead the Warriors by the Desert Shields.

Girly Tambeagbor and Josie Lourenco netted goals for Cheyenne.

Faith Lutheran 7, Spring Valley 3 — At Faith Lutheran, the Crusaders exploded for six goals in the second half, erasing a 3-1 halftime deficit to defeat the Grizzlies.

Megan Donnelly had three goals and an assist for Faith Lutheran, which scored four times in the first 18 minutes of the second half.

Kristi Chinn added two goals and two assists, and Brenna Rohnkohl recorded a goal and an assist for Faith Lutheran, which also got a goal from Megan Sonerholm.

Janis Martinez-Ortiz scored twice for Spring Valley and assisted on Anay Barajas’ goal.
