Coronado’s John Lynam earns Player of the Year honors

Coronado’s John Lynam was named the Gatorade Nevada Boys Soccer Player of the Year, the Gatorade Company announced Monday.

Lynam, a junior forward, scored 35 goals and dished out 22 assists for a Cougars team that went 18-4-1 and won the Sunrise Region championship. In five postseason games, Lynam scored eight goals and four assists to help the Coronado reach the Class 4A state title game.

Lynam was named to the Class 4A All-Southern Nevada team and was the Southeast League Offensive Player of the Year.

Peter Garrett of Carson won the award last season, and Foothill’s Jackson Dietrich was the last Southern Nevada athlete to win, doing so in 2014-15. Lynam is the first Coronado boys soccer player to win the award.

Lynam becomes a finalist for the Gatorade National Boys Soccer Player of the Year honor, which will be announced later this month.
