BOYS SOCCER: Chaparral captures Show Low Invitational title

Gavynn Mossiah scored two goals Saturday to lead Chaparral’s boys soccer team to a 4-1 win over Snowflake (Ariz.) in the championship match of the Show Low Invitational in Show Low, Ariz.

Jose Morales and Omar Carranza each added a goal for the Cowboys, who pulled away after a 1-1 halftime tie.

The Cowboys went 4-0 in the tournament and outscored their opposition, 22-4.

Chaparral 2, Show Low (Ariz.) 0 — At Show Low, Ariz., Morales had a goal and an assist to lead the Cowboys past the host school in the Show Low Invitational.

Carlos Hernandez also scored for Chaparral.

Gerardo Skewes made three saves en route to the shutout.

Faith Lutheran 3, Payson (Ariz.) 1 — At Show Low, Ariz., Carter Bishop scored twice to lead the Crusaders by Payson in the fifth-place match of the Show Low Invitational.

Zach Miller added a goal for Faith Lutheran.

Faith Lutheran 0, Desert Christian (Ariz.) 0 — At Show Low, Ariz., the Crusaders and Desert Christian played to a scoreless tie in the Show Low Invitational.

Faith Lutheran’s Phil Starcher made five saves en route to the shutout.

Palo Verde 5, Virgin Valley 1 — At Palo Verde, Nolan Sherwood scored three goals to lead the Panthers by the Bulldogs.

Josh Fowler and Nishesh Yadav also scored for Palo Verde, which got two assists from Austin Manthey.

Moises Medina scored for Virgin Valley.
