2016 All-State Boys Soccer Team

Here is the Las Vegas Review-Journal’s 2016 all-state boys soccer team.

FIRST TEAM

Jose Anaya, Western

The senior lead all Class 3A keepers win nine shutouts and helped the Warriors win the Southern Region title and reach the state title game. He was named Sunset League Goalkeeper of the Year.

Jose Arreola, Sunrise Mountain

The senior finished second in Southern Nevada with 30 goals and third with 73 points. He was part of the Class 3A All-Southern Region team and was named Sunset League Offensive Player of the Year after helping the Miners to the Sunset League title.

Thomas Cooper, Galena

The senior was named the Offensive Player of the Year for the Sierra League. He helped the Grizzlies to a 21-2-3 record that ended with a Class 4A state championship.

Musio Jimenez-Vazquez, Sunrise Mountain

The senior was fourth in Southern Nevada with 70 points and fifth with 27 goals. He was named to the Class 3A All-Southern Region team and guided the Miners to a 14-0 regular season and the Sunset League championship.

Preston Judd, Coronado

The senior led Southern Nevada with 23 assists and was second in points (81) and third in goals (29). He was named to the Class 4A All-Southern Nevada team and helped the Cougars reach the state title game.

John Lynam, Coronado

The junior led Southern Nevada with 35 goals and 92 points. He was named to the Class 4A All-Southern Nevada team and was the Southeast League’s Offensive Player of the Year. He helped guide the Cougars to Sunrise Region title and a second-place finish at state.

Miguel Mendoza, Chaparral

The junior helped the Cowboys reach the Class 3A Southern Region title game. He was named the Sunrise League Defensive Player of the Year and placed on the All-Southern Region team.

Diego Nieves, Del Sol

The senior’s 28 goals were fourth in Southern Nevada and he was named the Class 3A Sunrise League Offensive Player of the Year. He was part of the All-Southern Region team.

Jesus Partida, Sparks

The senior led Northern Nevada with 32 goals and 72 points. He was named the Northern Region Player of the Year and helped the Railroaders win the Class 3A state title and Northern Region title.

Paolo Sarnataro, Durango

The senior goalkeeper was named to the Class 4A All-Southern Nevada team after leading the region with 12 shutouts. He was named Goalkeeper of the Year in the Southwest League.

Francisco Serrano, Galena

The senior was named the Midfield Player of the Year for the Sierra League. He helped the Grizzlies win the Class 4A Northern Region and state titles.

Harrison Skinner, Coronado

The senior goalkeeper was second in Southern Nevada with 10 shutouts. He was named to the Class 4A All-Southern Nevada team and helped the Cougars finish second at the state tournament.

Anthony Sotelo, Durango

The senior was named the Southwest League’s Defensive Player of the Year. He also helped the Trailblazers to a berth in the Class 4A state tournament.

Lucas Tardelli, Elko

The senior was second in Northern Nevada with 31 goals and was named to the Class 3A All-Northern League first team. He helped the Indians reach the semifinals of the region tournament.

Genaro Vazquez, Sparks

The senior scored 26 points en route to a spot on the Class 3A All-Northern League first team. He was the captain of a Railroaders team that won the state championship and Northern Region title.

SECOND TEAM

Juan Arredondo-Alvarez, Western

The junior was named the Defensive Player of the Year for the Class 3A Sunset League. He was also named to the All-Southern Region team, and converted a penalty kick in overtime to give the Warriors the Southern Region title.

Arturo Bahena, Cimarron-Memorial

The senior’s 27 goals tied for fifth-best in Southern Nevada. He was named Offensive Player of the Year in the Northwest League and earned a spot on the Class 4A All-Southern Nevada team.

Maxwell Barainca, Wooster

The senior was the only goalkeeper named to the Class 4A All-Sierra League first team. He helped the Colts to a 12-5-1 record and a spot in the postseason.

Cesar Becerra, Canyon Springs

The senior was named Defensive Player of the Year in the Northeast League and earned a spot on the Class 4A All-Southern Nevada team. He helped the Pioneers to a fifth straight trip to the postseason.

Court Diesner, Spanish Springs

The senior was named the Offensive Player of the Year for the Class 4A High Desert League. He also helped the Cougars to a spot in the Northern Region semifinals.

Peter Garrett, Carson

The senior was named the Defensive Player of the Year for the Sierra League. He helped the Senators to a runner-up finish in the Class 4A Northern Region.

Jose Gonzalez, Truckee

The senior was named to the Class 3A All-Northern League first team as a midfielder. He led the Wolverines with 18 goals and helped them reach the Northern Region semifinals.

Hunter Kitzmiller, McQueen

The senior was named Defensive Player of the Year of the Class 4A High Desert League.

Koby Mattson, North Tahoe

The sophomore was named the Class 3A All-Northern League first team goalkeeper, and helped the Vikings reach the state tournament.

Dresdan Quackenbush, Cimarron-Memorial

The senior finished eighth in Southern Nevada in goals (21), seventh in both assists (15) and points (57). He was named to the Class 4A All-Southern Nevada team.

Justin Rasmussen, Bishop Gorman

The senior was named to the Class 4A All-Southern Nevada team and earned Southwest League Offensive Player of the Year honors after finishing seventh in the region with 23 goals.

Mario Rocha, Eldorado

The senior led the Sundevils with 15 goals and was named to the Class 4A All-Southern Nevada team. He was also named the Northeast League Offensive Player of the Year.

Andres Santana, Tech

The senior had 17 goals and 14 assists, which was good enough to earn him a place on the Class 3A All-Southern Region team. He helped the Roadrunners make the postseason for the ninth year in a row.

Chris Sosa, Las Vegas

The senior goalkeeper tied for second in Southern Nevada with 10 shutouts and helped give the Wildcats their third league championship in five years.

David Van Hoose, Spring Valley

The senior’s 21 assists were third in Southern Nevada and he helped lead the Grizzlies to their first Sunset Region title and state tournament appearance.
