HEAD OF THE CLASS: Saints’ Ottofy strikes out 29 in doubleheader sweep

The junior pitcher struck out 29 and picked up two victories in a doubleheader sweep of Spring Mountain. Ottofy struck out 19 and threw a one-hitter in a 5-0 win in the first game and followed with four perfect innings with 10 strikeouts in a 23-0 win in the second game.

The junior was 4-for-4 with a double and a triple and scored the winning run in a 9-8 victory over Clark. She also went 4-for-4 with two doubles, two triples and six RBIs in a 21-4 victory over Desert Pines.

The senior sprinter won the 100-meter dash at the Arcadia (Calif.) Invitational with a time of 10.44 seconds, the No. 2 wind-legal time in the nation, according to Dyestat.com.

The senior jumper won the long jump at the Arcadia (Calif.) Invitational with a mark of 24 feet, 6 inches.

ARBOR VIEW — Girls track athlete Danica Hammond placed fourth in the Rising Elite section of the high jump at the Arcadia (Calif.) Invitational, clearing 5 feet, 4 inches. Boys volleyball player Sam Buckels had a total of 37 kills, 10 blocks, seven aces and seven digs in victories over Cimarron-Memorial and Bonanza.

BOULDER CITY — Girls swimmer Alex Hubel won the 50-yard freestyle and the 100 butterfly to lead the Eagles to a 206-52 win over Sunrise Mountain. Boys golfer Luke Logan shot 1-under-par 71 to win a Sunrise League match at Boulder City Municipal.

DESERT OASIS — Girls track athlete Ashle Love set a school record in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 48.96 seconds in a home meet against Arbor View.

FAITH LUTHERAN — Girls track athlete Kendall Larson was second in the 1,600-meter run and fourth in the 3,200 at the Ron Resler Invitational in Boulder City.

FOOTHILL — Boys swimmer Kaden Jesperson set a school record of 4 minutes, 58.86 seconds in the 500-yard freestyle against Silverado. It was the third school record set by Jesperson this season.

MOUNTAIN VIEW — Softball player Savannah Alley went 3-for-6 with a double, a triple and three RBIs and struck out 12 in three games.

PALO VERDE — Girls track athlete Kea Lani Jiu won the high jump and triple jump to lead the Panthers to victory in the Division I/I-A Challenge at The Meadows Invitational. Jiu set a personal record of 4 feet, 10 inches in the high jump.

SHADOW RIDGE — Softball pitcher Shelbi Denman went the distance and struck out four in a 1-0 win over Palo Verde. Baseball player Eric Jordan went 6-for-13 with a home run, three runs and five RBIs and earned two saves on the mound to help the Mustangs to a 3-1 record for the week.

SIERRA VISTA — Boys golfer George Kim shot par 72 to finish first in a Sunset League match at Las Vegas Golf Club. Girls track athlete Morgan O’Neal was named the Outstanding Female Athlete for the Division I/I-A Challenge at The Meadows Invitational after finishing first in the 100-meter dash and helping the 400 and 800 relay teams to wins.

SILVERADO — Girls track thrower Monet Salazar finished third in the discus at the Arcadia (Calif.) Invitational with a mark of 134 feet, 2 inches. Boys track athlete Cody Hudson won the 300-meter hurdles at the Arcadia (Calif.) Invitational with a time of 39.3 seconds.
