HEAD OF THE CLASS: Faith Lutheran’s Summerhays, Gorman’s Vashti Cunningham lead week’s top performers

The senior outfielder had four home runs and 10 RBIs in a 22-0 win over Sunrise Mountain. He finished the week 7-for-10 with 11 RBIs and nine runs.

The freshman high jumper cleared 6 feet, ¼ inch at The Meadows Invitational, the top mark in the nation this season, according to athletic.net.

HEAD OF THE CLASS

ARBOR VIEW — Baseball player Adam Koutz pitched a shutout against Sierra Vista and allowed only an unearned run against Green Valley, striking out a total of 15 in 14 innings. Softball player Karli Lehr went 7-for-10, raising her batting average to .551, and scored four runs in games against Palo Verde, Shadow Ridge and Green Valley.

BISHOP GORMAN — Girls diver Josie Larreau won the 1-meter dive with a personal best of 190.0 and helped the Gaels to a 182-127 win over Palo Verde.

BONANZA — Baseball player David Estrada pitched a two-hit shutout and was 1-for-2 with an RBI in a 2-0 home win over Centennial.

CLARK — Boys golfer Michael Swain qualified for the Division I-A Southern Region meet.

ELDORADO — Boys swimmer Alan Ibarra set qualifying times for the Sunrise Region meet in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100 freestyle.

FAITH LUTHERAN — Girls track athlete Clarissa Maxey won the 100-meter run and set a school record and took second in the 400-meter run with a time of 57.31 at The Meadows Invitational.

FOOTHILL — Boys golfer Taylor Montgomery carded a 5-under-par 65 to take medalist honors at the Southeast League match at Wildhorse.

LAUGHLIN — Softball player Cassie Beggs allowed one earned run on two hits with seven strikeouts and went 2-for-3 with three RBIs in a 6-3 victory over Lake Mead.

PALO VERDE — Boys swimmer Luke Trafton won the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle and swam a leg on the winning 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay in the Panthers’ 192-101 victory over Bishop Gorman at Pavilion. Girls swimmer Erin Emery won the 200 freestyle and 500 freestyle against Bishop Gorman.

SIERRA VISTA — Boys volleyball player Clyde Balagtas had 24 kills and 24 digs in the Mountain Lions’ wins over Durango and Clark and loss to Palo Verde. Girls swimmer Angelica Vargas-Flores took first in the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke and swam on the winning 200 medley relay and 200 freestyle relay teams as the Mountain Lions topped Desert Oasis 157-142 at Multi-Generational.
