Athletes of the Week
Torren Brozovich, Bonanza
The senior outfielder went 6-for-13 with two home runs and nine RBIs to lead the Bengals to four victories. He was 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs and tripled home the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth inning in a 12-10 home win over Spring Valley.
Losi Brown, Chaparral
The junior went 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs and threw a complete game to help the Cowboys deal Boulder City its first Class 3A Sunrise League loss. She also tripled in a win against Del Sol.
Matt Wilson, Coronado
The junior setter totaled 85 assists and 11 digs in Southeast League wins over Basic and Foothill and led the Cougars to a 3-3 record in the Redondo Union (California) tournament over the weekend.
Austen Ancell, Pahrump Valley
The senior shot a 7-under-par 65 to earn medalist honors and help the Trojans win a Sunset League match.
Justin Meeks, Foothill
The junior won three individual events in a home meet against Valley: the 110-meter hurdles (16.05 seconds), 300 hurdles (42.95) and pole vault (8 feet, 6 inches).
Deborah Grant, Green Valley
The sophomore helped the Gators win the Sunset FAST Classic by sweeping the the sprint events. She won the 100-meter dash in 12.53 seconds, took the 200 in 25.59 and the 400 in 57.05.
Gabriel Weber, Green Valley
The sophomore won the the 200-yard freestyle in 1:48.06 seconds and 500 freestyle in 4:52.62 for the Gators as they coasted by Liberty, 203-73.
Isabella Jones, Arbor View
The sophomore won a pair of events to lead the Aggies to a win over Desert Oasis. She won the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:16.02 seconds, and took the 200 individual medley in 2:23.87, as Arbor View won the meet, 165-121.
Head of the Class
Pahrump Valley — Baseball player Josh Ferrer went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs and earned the victory on the mound against Western. Softball player Jordan Egan hit two home runs in a victory over Western.
Palo Verde — Boys swimmer Alec Clinton won the 200-yard individual medley (2 minutes, 2.12 seconds) and 500 freestyle (4:54.73) and swam a leg of the winning 200 freestyle relay (4:54.73). Girls swimmer Emelia Piccininni won the 50 freestyle (25.44) and was on the winning 200 medley relay team (1:56.42).
Shadow Ridge — Baseball player Jesse Meyer pitched an eight-inning one-hitter to shut out Faith Lutheran, 6-0. He struck out eight and had a pair of RBIs at the plate.
Sierra Vista — Boys volleyball player Chris McCoy had 33 kills, five blocks and three aces in matches against Desert Oasis and Foothill. Girls track athlete Emma Zeigler won the 400-meter dash and was on the winning 800 relay, 1,200 relay and 3,200 relay teams in a home meet. She also was on the winning 800 relay and 3,200 relay teams at the Sunset FAST Classic.
