Taylor’s late TD lifts Bengals over Mountain Lions

Bonanza (3-0, 2-0 Southwest) scored three times on drives that began in Sierra Vista territory and twice came from behind to defeat the Mountain Lions (0-2, 0-1) 31-27 on Friday.

Sierra Vista rode Justin Green’s 180 rushing yards and two touchdowns, including an 82-yarder, to leads in the first and fourth quarters, but couldn’t hold on.

Trailing 27-24 with 8:10 to play, Bonanza took over at the Mountain Lions’ 40-yard line after a 7-yard muffed punt. After a 9-yard loss, the Bengals got rushes of 14, 14, 7 and 9 yards before Jayveon Taylor scored on a 6-yard run.

Taylor had 79 yards on 14 carries, and Rico Soto gained 89 yards on 13 carries. Brett Doyle passed for 148 yards and a touchdown and Austin Rowe had a 24-yard field goal.

For Sierra Vista, Taz Wilson passed for 145 yards, but Bonanza’s Jacob picked off two passes, one that ended the Mountain Lions’ final drive.
