Saints jump to early lead, blow past Laughlin

Ian Locke rushed for a pair of first-half touchdowns, and Matthew Larson also had two TD runs to help host Mountain View’s football team storm to a 46-13 win over Laughlin on Saturday.

Larson finished with 163 rushing yards on 16 carries and caught a 28-yard pass from Locke as the Saints (4-1, 4-0 Division III Southern) bolted to a 39-0 halftime lead and never looked back.

“He’s a big, fun kid that makes me look smart,” Mountain View coach Mike Valenzuela said of Larson. “Even when I have a bad play call, he usually can run over somebody or make them miss. ... All of a sudden, everyone thinks I did a good job.”

Locke was 3 of 8 passing for 65 yards and a touchdown and rushed for 75 yards on 11 carries.

Locke’s 17-yard touchdown pass to Connor LeBoeuf just 2:18 into the game gave Mountain View the lead for good.

The Saints rushed for 355 yards, and got touchdown runs from Jacob Duldulao in the first quarter and Bernard Williams in the final minute of the first half.

Laughlin (2-4, 2-3) tried to rally in the third quarter, getting an 11-yard touchdown pass from Justin Quibell to Brett Smith and Anthony Escarzaga’s 6-yard TD run to pull within 39-13, but got no closer.
