ROUNDUP: Lindemann’s leg lifts Del Sol
By the time Del Sol’s Dylan Lindemann lined up to try a 32-yard field goal with nine seconds left Friday night, his team had already racked up 45 points.
The Dragons still trailed by two, however, and the senior place kicker knew what he had to do. He nailed a line drive straight through the uprights to lift Del Sol to a dramatic 48-47 road victory over eighth-ranked Green Valley.
“I was so nervous,” said Lindemann, who also had a key onside kick to set up the Dragon’s winning drive. “I had never been in that situation. But right when I kicked it, I knew it was going in.”
Senior running back Chris Marshall made the Del Sol rally possible by rushing 43 times for 306 yards and five touchdowns.
“We were coming off a four-game losing streak,” a stoic Marshall said. “So I just ran hard.”
Green Valley (5-3, 3-2 Southeast) appeared to have things under control after Aaron Love scored on a 60-yard sprint to give his team a 47-35 lead late in the third quarter.
But Del Sol (4-4, 2-3) held the ball for nearly the entire fourth, cutting the deficit to 47-38 on Lindemann’s first field goal, a 35-yarder with 7:48 remaining.
Green Valley’s ensuing two-play drive ended when Tremar Pike intercepted a Jacob Olim pass. The Dragons capitalized, going 80 yards in 13 plays to make it 47-45 on Marshall’s 8-yard TD run.
That’s when Lindeman placed a perfect onside kick near the left sideline. With Del Sol players scrambling to create the appearance there were too many men on the field, the Gators looked confused. The Dragons recovered at the Green Valley 44 to set up their final score.
“We just acted like we had 12 men on the field,” Del Sol coach Preston Goroff said. “I’d be lying if I said we set that play up. We just thought of it right before the kick.”
Nathan Kirschbaum scored on a 1-yard run to give Del Sol a 7-0 lead, but Green Valley answered with an 18-yard TD pass from Olim to Sean Ferraro.
Marshall put the Dragons ahead 21-7 on scoring runs on a 1-yard plunge and a 42-yard run on a fake punt. Elijah Spann scored on a second-quarter pass from Olim to cut Green Valley’s deficit, but Marshall scored on a 42-yard sprint seven plays later to make it 28-14.
The Gators again fought back, scoring on a 12-yard run by Love and a 28-yard pass from Kris Hanson to Ferraro .
Love (220 yards on 23 carries) had two more TD runs in the third for Green Valley and Spann scored on a 30-yard Olim pass. The Gators had only four offensive plays in the final quarter, however, enabling the Dragons to rally.
Foothill 42, Basic 35 — At Basic, Brandon Wiltz scored the go-ahead touchdown on a 10-yard run with 2:26 left remaining to complete a rally by the No. 6 Falcons (7-1, 4-1 Southeast).
Tyren Boykin secured the win when he intercepted a pass in the end zone with 1:31 left, thwarting a potential tying score for Basic (4-4, 2-3), which led 28-7 in the first half.
Drew Doxtator completed 20 of 35 passes for 207 yards and three touchdowns for the Falcons, including a 52-yard strike to Tyler Morris that tied the game at 35-35 with 4:48 left.
Basic had a first-and-goal at the 4 with 6:31 to play, but fumbled into the end zone, and Jarett Arcangel recovered for the Falcons, setting up Doxtator’s tying pass to Morris.
Kyle Keplinger had three TDs for Foothill. Keplinger had a 6-yard TD run in the first quarter, an 11-yard TD reception in the second and a 95-yard kickoff return for a score in the third.
Antraye Johnson had 119 rushing yards and two TDs for Basic, and also threw a 40-yard scoring pass to Devonte Boyd.

Liberty 16, Coronado 10 — At Coronado, Dustin Kaanaana scored on an 83-yard kickoff return in the third quarter, restoring a lead that held up for the No. 5 Patriots (7-1, 5-0 Southeast).
Jordan Kapeli scored on a 10-yard run in the first half for Liberty, but Coronado (3-5, 1-5) went ahead 10-7 in the third quarter on Nate Webb’s 2-yard keeper and Chris Laliberte’s 26-yard field goal.
Kaanaana’s return on the ensuing kickoff put the Patriots back on top, and Austin Fitzgerald added a 31-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

Canyon Springs 28, Valley 21 — At Valley, Donnel Pumphrey rushed for 223 yards and four touchdowns as the No. 10 Pioneers (6-2, 6-0) beat the Vikings (3-5, 3-3) to stay unbeaten in the Northeast League.
Pumphrey ran for back-to-back scores of 61 and 52 yards in the third quarter after scoring from 1 and 15 in the first half.
Dillard Davis scored on a 6-yard run for Valley with 3:05 to play, but the Pioneers’ Austin Cooper ended the Vikings’ final possession with an interception.
Anthony Sanders passed for 131 yards, including first-half TDs of 35 yards to Kennedy Williams and 13 yards to Davis.

Cheyenne 16, Mojave 8 — At Cheyenne, the Desert Shields (6-2, 5-2 Northwest) survived a scare, getting a 15-yard touchdown run by Tyler Spight with 15 seconds remaining to escape against the Rattlers (1-7, 0-7).
Held scoreless since late in the first quarter, Cheyenne got the ball back with 2:10 to play and went 68 yards in eight plays, including a 21-yard run by Keenon Buchanan on third-and-6 with 24 seconds left.
Mojave had tied the game 8-all with 11:30 left when Bryant Lewis ran for an 8-yard TD and the 2-point conversion.
Spight scored on a 1-yard run in the first quarter and finished with 159 yards.
Buchanan, who ran for a 2-point conversion following the winning touchdown, also caught a conversion pass from Bakari Smith.

Palo Verde 49, Faith Lutheran 0 — At Palo Verde, Lee Griggs rushed for 130 yards and three touchdowns on only seven carries and added a 32-yard interception-return TD as the second-ranked Panthers (8-0, 7-0 Northwest) blanked the Crusaders (2-6, 2-5).
Griggs ran for scores of 6 and 71 yards in the first half, as well as his interception return. He added a 7-yard score in the fourth quarter.
Palo Verde gained 386 yards on the ground, also getting rushing touchdowns by Ryan Beaulieu (77 yards), Eric South (4) and Jacob Witham (41).

Desert Oasis 51, Pahrump Valley 14 — At Pahrump, Herman Smith threw for two first-half touchdowns, propelling the ninth-ranked Diamondbacks (6-2, 6-1 Southwest) past the Trojans (1-7, 1-6).
Smith tossed a 22-yard TD pass to Mark Fredericks, then a 13-yard strike to Deumaine Reeder.
Devin Fortenberry had TD runs of 15 and 5 yards for Desert Oasis, which got a 30-yard field goal from Matt Howard. Blake Kutz blocked a punt in the end zone for a Diamondbacks TD.
A.J. Segura scored on runs of 33 and 32 yards for Pahrump.

Bonanza 38, Spring Valley 14 — At Bonanza, Carlos Soto rushed for 101 yards and three touchdowns to help the Bengals (7-1, 6-1 Southwest) pull away from the Grizzlies (2-6, 2-5).
Bonanza outscored Spring Valley 14-0 in the first quarter and 17-0 in the fourth. Soto had TD runs of 9, 3 and 20 yards. Jayveon Taylor ran for 75 yards, with TDs of 6 and 18 yards.
Bengals place kicker Austin Rowe made five extra points and a 32-yard field goal.
Spring Valley scored its points in the third quarter, fueled by Rondale Scruggs with a 55-yard run, an interception and a tackle for a loss. Gerardo Castillo scored on a 3-yard run.

Durango 48, Sierra Vista 35 — At Durango, juniors Arie McQuaig and Marcus Williams combined for 404 yards rushing and six touchdowns as the Traiblazers (5-4, 5-3 Southwest) won a shootout over the Mountain Lions (2-6, 2-5).
McQuaig’s 6-yard TD run with 7:27 remaining put Durango up for good, 42-35, in a game that had six lead changes and three ties. McQuaig also had TDs of 4, 4 and 49 yards and finished with 244 yards on 27 carries.
Williams had 160 yards on 17 carries, scoring on runs of 15 and 39 yards, and Antonio Nieves added a 5-yard TD in the third quarter and a key defensive strip with 5:52 to play.
Sierra Vista’s Matt Murphy scored on passes of 63, 45 and 25 yards from Taz Wilson to give the Mountain Lions a 21-13 lead in the second quarter. Wilson scored on a 9-yard keeper and passed for 255 yards, including a 24-yard TD to Tim Jenkins and 2-point conversion run that tied it 35-all.

Cimarron Memorial 54, Shadow Ridge 7 — At Shadow Ridge, Demaryae Williams rushed for four touchdowns in the first half and the Spartans (5-4, 4-4 Northwest) breezed past the Mustangs (0-8, 0-7).
Willams scored on runs of 3, 25, 49 and 1 yards, and finished with 146 on 19 carries. Gerard Martinez opened the scoring with a 5-yard TD run and completed 10 of 17 passes for 167 yards, including touchdowns to Anthony Turner (17 yards) and Marques Price (37).
Shadow Ridge’s J Henderson passed for 128 yards, including a 55-yard touchdown to James Grigsby.

Desert Pines 32, Sunrise Mountain 6 — At Desert Pines, Leon Hayes rushed for 137 yards and three touchdowns to help the Jaguars (3-5, 3-3 Northeast) pull away from the Miners (0-8, 0-6).
Travis Nofoa passed for 135 yards, including a 66-yard touchdown to Thomas Hooper. Seven Desert Pines players made receptions.
The Miners’ Chris Moore threw for 94 yards and a touchdown, but sat out the second half with an injury. Charles Manning made four catches for 90 yards, including a 31-yard touchdown, and Tyree Mays rushed for 58 yards on 13 carries.

Eldorado 48, Chaparral 21 — At Eldorado, the Sundevils (3-5, 2-4 Northeast) rode a 27-point third quarter to retain “The Cleat” on homecoming against the Cowboys (1-7, 1-5).
Nicholas Blackmon passed for 159 yards and two touchdowns and also ran 2 yards for a score. Justin Brown rushed for 102 yards and caught a 30-yard TD pass, while Zaccheus Davis ran for 85 yards and scored on a 9-yard run.
Chaparral’s Kyle Scott both passed and ran for a touchdown, and Mike Shields returned an interception 20 yards for a score.

Boulder City 33, Clark 7 — At Clark, Tyler Washburn rushed for 155 yards and a 3-yard touchdown on 11 carries to lead the Eagles (3-5) over the Chargers (3-5).
Washburn’s TD capped an opening drive on which he gained all 69 yards. Boulder City rushed for 348 yards on 41 attempts.
James Morgan (64 yards, 10 carries) supplied TDs of 1 and 16 yards, and Xavier Steel ran for a 6-yard score. Defensive end D.J. Koopman, who made nine tackles and two sacks, scored on a 48-yard fake punt. Washburn had 10 tackles.
Clifton Smith scored for Clark on a 10-yard run and finished with 94 yards on 10 carries. Deyon McKinney gained 111 yards on 13 attempts.

Moapa Valley 27, Silverado 0 — At Overton, Conner Mortensen compiled 49 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries as the Pirates (7-2) blanked the Skyhawks (2-6).
Mortensen scored on runs of 4, 9 and 5 yards, and Dakota Gordon added a 20-yard rushing TD.
Dakota Watters passed for 82 yards, and Shane Terril caught four passes for 42 yards for Class 3A Moapa Valley, which improved to 5-1 against 4A teams.
Silverado trailed only 7-0 at halftime, but opened the second half with a surprise onside kick that Moapa Valley returned to Silverado’s 9-yard line. Mortensen scored on the next play.
Izaiah Thurmon rushed for 82 yards on 21 carries for Silverado, and Deandre Gause had 79 yards on 13 attempts.
White Pine 34, Calvary Chapel 6 — At Calvary Chapel, Josh Ashby passed for 149 yards and three touchdowns as the Bobcats (8-0, 6-0 2A Southern) clinched the South’s No. 1 seed for the Class 2A state playoffs.
Ashby, who completed 7 of 15 passes, threw TDs of 16 and 38 yards to Levi Valdez and 62 to Devante Valencia to help the Bobcats build a 21-6 halftime lead.
White Pine’s Joshua Groben returned the second-half kickoff 76 yards for a TD and Jacob Johnson returned an interception 69 yards for a score. Valencia made two interceptions.
For Calvary Chapel (2-6, 0-6), Bobby Buist passed for 89 yards and a TD on the same day he was named homecoming king. He threw a 15-yard TD pass to Kendall Nelson.

The Meadows 34, Agassi Prep 6 — At Rancho, Garrett Gosse passed for 242 yards and four touchdowns as the Mustangs (6-2, 5-1 2A Southern) downed the Stars (2-6, 2-4).
Gosse spread the ball around, as three receivers had at least 60 yards.
The Mustangs’ defense made two interceptions and two fumble recoveries. The Meadows also forced a turnover on downs inside its red zone.
Armond Whitney carried the load for Agassi Prep with 50 yards on 15 carries, including a 1-yard touchdown as time expired.

Pahrangat Valley 66, Beatty 6 — At Beaty, the Panthers broke the state record with their 42nd consecutive victory, building a 52-0 halftime lead on the way to a win over the Hornets.
The Panthers (8-0, 5-0 1A Southern) broke the mark set by The Meadows from 1998 to 2001.
“It’s fun for the kids,” Pahranagat Valley coach Ken Higbee said. “This group of seniors has been pretty special. But they understand what the real prize is: the state championship. We’ll think about the winning streak after the season.”
Panthers quarterback Austin Poulsen threw TD passes to Kade Wadsworth of 58, 3 and 17 yards. Poulsen scored on runs of 1 and 55.
Dakota Dawson scored on an 84-yard kickoff return for Beatty (3-4, 2-4).
Lincoln County 37, Laughlin 6 — At Panaca, four ball carriers combined for 566 yards on 50 rushes to power the Lynx (4-4, 4-2 2A Southern) past the Cougars (5-3, 3-3).
Lincoln County’s Nic Hurst rushed for 216 yards and two TDs on 19 carries, Preston Avery for 188 and one TD on 17 carries and Derek Cheeney for 148 yards and two scores on 11 carries.
Jake Hodges scored on a 70-yard run in the second quarter for Laughlin, which was outscored 21-0 in the third.
Round Mountain 24, Indian Springs 20 — At Round Mountain, Mitchell Doheney scored on runs of 1, 90 and 60 yards and returned an interception 25 yards for a score to help the Knights (5-3, 3-2 1A Southern) hold off the Thunderbirds (2-5, 0-5).
Indian Springs nearly climbed out of a 24-6 halftime deficit with a TD run and pass from Troy Heath in the second half.
Tonopah 61, Sandy Valley 34 — At Tonopah, Taylor McLauchlin and Spencer Littlefield ran for three touchdowns apiece to lead the Muckers (4-4, 3-2 1A Southern) past the Sidewinders (1-6, 0-5).
