RECRUITING: Gorman’s Patterson commits to UTEP

Bishop Gorman senior A.C. Patterson gave an oral commitment to Texas-El Paso on Tuesday night.

The 6-foot-2-inch, 285-pound center, who is the son of recently hired UTEP defensive coordinator Andre Patterson, started every game for the defending state champion Gaels since moving to Las Vegas from Colorado during his sophomore year.

“UTEP stood out for the most of the things I wanted in college, and we decided that would be the place to go,” A.C. Patterson said.

Andre Patterson was hired as defensive line coach at UNLV for the past two seasons before joining the Miners’ staff in January.

Players are not bound by oral commitments until formally signing a national letter of intent.

A.C. Patterson also received interest from UNR, Montana, Portland State and Northern Arizona.
