Pahranagat Valley tops Beatty, sets state record with 42nd straight win

Pahranagat Valley broke the state record with its 42nd consecutive victory Friday night, building a 52-0 halftime lead on its way to a 66-6 victory over host Beatty in the Class 1A Southern League.

The Panthers (8-0, 5-0 1A Southern) broke the record set by The Meadows from 1998 to 2001.

“It’s fun for the kids,” Pahrangat Valley coach Ken Higbee said. “This group of seniors has been pretty special. But they understand what the real prize is: the state championship. We’ll think about the winning streak after the season.”

Panthers quarterback Austin Poulsen threw TD passes to Kade Wadsworth of 58, 3 and 17 yards. Poulsen also scored on runs of 1 and 55.

Pahranagat Valley running back Chase Hansen returned from a leg injury and scored on a 27-yard run as part of a 32-point outburst in the opening period.

"There was a buzz around our team throughout the week," Higbee said of Hansen's return. "We've done all this all year without our best player on the football field. Chase is our speed and our physicality, and to get that back at this stage with him being fresh, we're pretty pleased."

Dakota Dawson scored on an 84-yard kickoff return for Beatty (3-4, 2-4).
