NIAA to announce official ruling regarding Basic-Clark fight

The Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association is set to announce consequences Wednesday morning for the fight between Basic and Clark’s football teams, Southern Nevada Officials Association commissioner Marc Ratner confirmed to the Review-Journal.

A late hit Friday night triggered a fight between the Wolves and Chargers at Clark and a subsequent cancellation of their game. The teams were assigned a double forfeit, and the Wolves will forfeit their next two games beginning with Friday’s scheduled game against Shadow Ridge, according to a source familiar with the ruling.

A tweet from the Shadow Ridge Football Twitter account appeared to confirm the cancellation of Friday’s game.

The Chargers also will forfeit their next game, the source said.

Basic players fought Canyon Springs players on the field after a game last September, and the teams were assessed a double forfeit along with the forfeiture of their next game.

Ratner did not elaborate on any consequences Tuesday, offering only that the situation was unfortunate.
