Moapa Valley’s Trystin Deal had a 23-yard touchdown run and caught an 11-yard scoring pass from Nate Cox as the ninth-ranked Pirates won the Sunrise League title by defeating Chaparral 35-6 on Friday in Overton.
Deal rushed for 110 yards on 10 carries for the Pirates, who took a 7-0 lead on R.J. Hubert’s 3-yard touchdown run with 35 seconds left in the first quarter.
Sterling Simmons added a 4-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter to help Moapa Valley (8-1, 6-0 Sunrise) take a 14-0 lead.
The Pirates held Chaparral (7-2, 5-1) to 96 total yards, including minus-14 yards rushing.
Chaparral’s Santiago Vialpando hit Casey Acosta on a 50-yard TD pass with 1:27 to play to spoil the shutout bid.
