McQuaig, Williams combine for 404 yards as Traiblazers top Mountain Lions

Durango juniors Arie McQuaig and Marcus Williams combined for 404 yards rushing and six touchdowns as the Traiblazers (5-4, 5-3 Southwest) topped visiting Sierra Vista (2-6, 2-5) 48-35 on Friday.
McQuaig’s 6-yard TD run with 7:27 remaining put Durango up for good, 42-35, in a game that had six lead changes and three ties. McQuaig also had TDs of 4, 4 and 49 yards and finished with 244 yards on 27 carries.
Williams had 160 yards on 17 carries, scoring on runs of 15 and 39 yards, and Antonio Nieves added a 5-yard TD in the third quarter and a key defensive strip with 5:52 to play.
Sierra Vista’s Matt Murphy scored on passes of 63, 45 and 25 yards from Taz Wilson to give the Mountain Lions a 21-13 lead in the second quarter. Wilson scored on a 9-yard keeper and passed for 255 yards, including a 24-yard TD to Tim Jenkins and 2-point conversion run that tied it 35-all.
