Legacy overcomes three scoreless quarters to down Shadow Ridge, remain undefeated

Undefeated Legacy was knotted at 0-0 with Shadow Ridge in the fourth quarter and facing the possibility of losing its first game of the year.

Then quarterback Devin Wiedemann scrambled 17 yards with 9:37 left and the second-ranked Longhorns (10-0, 8-0 Northwest) broke away with a  21-0 victory over Shadow Ridge (1-8, 1-7).

Longhorns coach David Snyder was excited about the undefeated season, but not about his team’s performance in the first half.

“We definetly came out flat and took (Shadow Ridge) lightly,” Snyder said. “They came out trying to prove something, and they did for most of the game.”

Martell Crockett added 160 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries for Legacy.

After Wiedemann’s score, Marcus McCollum intercepted a pass and returned it to the Shadow Ridge 30-yard line, setting up a 1-yard scoring run by Crockett.

On the Mustang’s next drive, Dionte Maxwell came up with the interception to put the ball in Legacy’s hands again.

On the next play, Crockett flew past the defense for a 40-yard touchdown to put the game out of reach with with 3:21 left.

The Longhorns are 10-0 for the first time in the school’s short history.

“The kids worked hard all year, and the coaches did a great job,” Snyder said. “Everyone bought in to the program.”

Legacy will host Spring Valley in the first round of the playoffs.
