Ireland, Longhorns hold off Wolves

Legacy's Jordan Ireland rushed for 221 yards and three scores and the Longhorns (3-3) held off a late rally to beat visiting Basic (4-3) 28-21 in a nonleague game Friday night.
Ireland scored on runs of 3 and 32 yards in the first half and extended Legacy’s lead to 20-6 after breaking an 80-yard TD run in the third quarter.
Basic answered when Eddie Vega found Darien Spencer for a 17-yard TD, then Kevin Aviles kicked his third field goal to cut the lead to five.
Alonzo Fuller scored on a 39-yard TD pass from Jordan Pinkney to put the Longhorns up by two scores with five minutes to play.
The Wolves’ Benito Gutierrez scored on a 4-yard run on the ensuing possession, but Basic was unable to drive for a tying score after getting the ball back with 1:12 to play.
Vega completed 16 of 25 passes for 221 yards and Darien Spencer had nine catches for 131 yards for Basic.
