Gosse, Mustangs rout Saints, roll into semifinals

Garrett Gosse threw for 201 yards and three first-half touchdowns Saturday to lead The Meadows to a 48-8 win over visiting Mountain View in a Class 2A state quarterfinal football game.

Max Newman hauled in all three of Gosse’s TD passes, scoring on tosses of 30, 60 and 13 yards, to finish with 120 receiving yards on five catches.

Kenny Brown also ran for three TDs for the Mustangs (8-2), who built a 34-8 halftime lead. Brown had 61 yards on six carries, including scoring runs of 2, 30 and 8 yards.

The Meadows’ Chase Marrs ran for 90 yards on six carries, including a 33-yard touchdown.

Linebacker Torrey Mayes snagged two interceptions for the Mustangs, who will visit Pershing County in a state semifinal next week.

Mountain View’s (6-5) only score came on Trevor Van Kempen’s 7-yard quarterback keeper in the second quarter.
