Gorman names Kenny Sanchez interim football coach

Bishop Gorman announced in a news release Thursday that defensive coordinator Kenny Sanchez would act as the school’s interim head football coach until a permanent replacement is named.

Sanchez, the younger brother of Tony Sanchez, has been on the coaching staff for six seasons and was listed as assistant head coach on this year’s roster.

Tony Sanchez was named UNLV’s coach on Thursday after spending six years at Gorman and winning six state championships and finishing with an 86-5 record. This year’s team is ranked No. 1 in the nation by USA Today.

“This is a great opportunity for Tony and his family,” Gorman president John Kilduff said in the statement. “Replacing him will not be an easy task, but we’re committed to excellence in all our endeavors and will take the necessary steps to ensure the program’s future is secure.”
