Gaels steamroll Bonanza

Randall Cunningham threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score Thursday to lead top-ranked Bishop Gorman to a 79-0 win at Bonanza.

Cunningham, who completed all three of his passes for 62 yards, scampered for a 31-yard score and threw TD passes of 20 yards to Alize Jones and 23 yards to Daniel Stewart during the first quarter.

Russell Booze had four carries for 85 yards in the first quarter, including scores of 42 and 20 yards to lead the Gorman (8-2, 5-0 Southwest League) ground attack.

Gorman’s Dylan Weldon returned a blocked field goal by teammate Nicco Fertitta 65 yards to push the lead to 41-0 at the end of the first quarter.

The Gaels added three rushing TDs in the third quarter: 2 yard by Jonathan Shumaker, 9 yards by Stewart and 10 yards by Alex Perry to make it 62-0.

Gorman’s Jaylen Carroll added a 47-yard TD sprint early in the fourth quarter, and kicker Ramiz Ahmed, who went 6-for-7 on extra points, hit a 28-yard field goal to cap the scoring.

Carlos Soto racked up 88 yards on kickoff returns, and Devin Hosey hauled in a 39-yard catch from quarterback Tyler Penkalski for Bonanza (3-5, 1-3).
