Gaels crush shorthanded Bonanza

Bishop Gorman's Victor Belen rushed for 152 yards and three touchdowns on only four carries as the top-ranked Gaels (7-0, 5-0 Southwest) rolled to a 72-0 win Friday over shorthanded Bonanza (3-4, 3-3).

Belen scored on runs of 30, 38 and 53 yards. Shaquille Powell also had three touchdown runs, and finished with 94 yards on eight carries.

Bonanza played without five starters who were suspended for fighting in last week’s game against Western.

The Bengals never threatened. The Gaels led 44-0 at halftime, pulled several starters early in the third quarter and a running clock was used in the second half.

Gorman freshman Jarrett Solomon completed 4 of 5 passes for 64 yards, including a 12-yard touchdown to Xavier Grimble.

Bonanza quarterback Sterling Sprau completed 6 of 15 for 65 yards, but did not play in the second half.
