Duldulao’s late TD catch sends Saints to title game

T.J. Engel’s 26-yard touchdown pass to freshman Jacob Duldulao with 1 minute, 51 seconds remaining in the game Saturday allowed Mountain View to rally past Rite of Passage, 41-38 in a Class 2A state semifinal in Yerington.
Rite of Passage (9-3) built a 38-26 lead on Devontay Williams’ 1-yard TD run with nine minutes left in the third quarter, but the Saints' defense held the remainder of the way.
Engel connected with Trevor Van Kempen on a 16-yard scoring strike late in the third quarter to pull the Saints (7-5) to within 38-33. Duldulao’s winning score came on a drive that started inside the Mountain View 10-yard line.
Engel completed 21 of 39 passes for 423 yards and five touchdowns, and the Saints scored four touchdowns on fourth-down plays.
“Our fourth-down plays were ridiculous,” Mountain View coach Ray LeBoeuf. “Our kids just dug deep and made the plays. That’s a testament to the heart of these kids.”
Van Kempen caught eight passes for 128 yards, and Justyn Anderson added six receptions for 120 yards, including a 41-yard TD catch. Van Kempen and Anderson also were the Saints’ leading tacklers and combined to force three turnovers.
“There were some big efforts out there,” LeBoeuf said.
Matt Larson caught TD passes of 26 and 40 yards in the second quarter for Mountain View, which will meet Pershing County for the 2A title on Nov. 20 at 3 p.m. at Arbor View.
Williams finished with four rushing touchdowns for Rite of Passage.
