Dominant second half propels Silverado to victory

Silverado quarterback Kana Hoapili passed for 103 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Skyhawks to a 32-13 road victory over Valley on Saturday.

Silverado (1-2) moved linebacker Myron Mingo to running back, and he proved to be a big challenge for the Vikings (0-3). Mingo broke several long runs and finished with 83 yards on 11 carries.

Hoapili completed 7 of 9 passes, including TD tosses of 36 and 12 yards to Bravyn Aquino.

Valley was able to keep things close in the first half despite two turnovers and a touchdown that was nullified by a penalty.

After Silverado took an 8-0 lead on a 14-yard TD run by Jacob Mendez and a 2-point conversion, Valley answered with a 13-yard TD pass from Endy Diaz to Trayvon Mack-Escoto with 1:05 to go in the first quarter.

Hoapili’s first touchdown pass to Aquino made it 15-6 at the break.

The second half was completely controlled by Silverado. The Skyhawks scored touchdowns on their first two possessions of the third quarter to make it 29-6. The scores came on 1-yard run by Joshua Lathers and Hoapili’s second touchdown pass to Aquino.

Silverado prevented the Vikings offense from crossing midfield again until their last drive of the game, which was capped by a 17-yard TD pass from Bryce Jones to Seth Jarrett with 2:44 to play.

Jones finished with a team-high 41 yards on 14 carries for Valley.
