Crusaders dominate Western

Faith Lutheran’s football team never started a drive in its own territory Thursday on its way to a 69-8 win at Western.

The Crusaders (3-3, 2-2 Sunset) scored early and often. Christian Marshall scored on his only two touches of the game for their first two touchdowns, and Faith Lutheran finished the first quarter with a touchdown reception by Robby Schwarz and a 12-yard TD run by Alfred Sobojeyo.

The second quarter was all Crusaders. Quarterback Greg Benson hit Mark Rubalcaba for two touchdown passes. Brytton Weber returned a punt 21 yards for a TD, Tyler Mahan returned an interception for a 28-yard score, and Soboyejo scored on a 16-yard scamper to make it 62-8 at halftime.

Schwarz opened the second half with a 79-yard kick return for a touchdown to cap the scoring.

Snyder led all receivers with 97 yards, while Rubalcaba finished with 74 yards. Joshua Rodridguez had 11 carries for 46 yards for Faith Lutheran, which had five interceptions on the night, including two each by Elijah Kothe and Trevor Driscoll.

The Crusaders had an average starting field position of the Western 33-yard line.

Western (0-6, 0-4) scored on an 89-yard kickoff return by Miles Snyder in the first quarter.
