Calvin Beaulieu, Panthers roll past Bonanza

Palo Verde unior running back Calvin Beaulieu set the tone early, scoring on runs of 15 and 56 yards in the first half help the No. 5 Panthers (1-2) top visiting Bonanza (0-2) 41-13 on Friday.

Beaulieu led all rushers with 169 yards on 21 carries.

Bonanza scored first on a 72-yard interception return by safety Colton Bennion, and kept it score close in the first half when Tyler Penkalski blocked a Palo Verde punt which Scott Dore recovered in the end zone.

The Panthers defense, though, got heat on the quarterback all night, compiling five sacks and yielding only seven first downs.

Palo Verde took to the air in the second half. Parker Rost threw touchdowns to Hykeem Massey on consecutive drives to start the third quarter. Rost finished with 162 yards passing and three touchdowns.

Senior tight end/linebacker Christian D’Orazio-Martin caught a 28-yard touchdown pass, and also had two sacks.
