Bishop Gorman slips to No. 7 in national poll

Updated September 5, 2017 - 5:52 pm

Fresh off a loss in Southern California, Bishop Gorman’s football team has its lowest ranking since 2013.

The Gaels slipped to No. 7 in the USA Today Super 25 poll released Monday. Bishop Gorman was unranked after the 2013 season, but emerged as the nation’s No. 1 team after Week 1 in 2014. The Gaels had not been ranked lower than fourth since.

On Friday, Gorman (1-1) fell on the road to Mater Dei (California) 35-21, snapping a 55-game winning streak that began in 2013. The Gaels’ last loss was to Booker T. Washington (Florida) on Oct. 4, 2013.

Gorman hosts No. 16 Miami Central (Florida) on Friday, then No. 6 De La Salle (California) on Sept. 16. Both teams are 2-0 this season.

The other local team gunning for a national ranking, Liberty, fell 31-0 to then-No. 25 American Heritage (Florida) on the road. American Heritage jumped to No. 15 following the win.
