Bishop Gorman gains one spot in national poll to No. 11

Bishop Gorman’s football team snapped a two-game losing streak Saturday and jumped a spot in the USA Today Super 25 poll.

The Gaels are ranked No. 11 after beating then-No. 6 De La Salle (California) at home Saturday, 34-7. Gorman was ranked 12th going into the game.

It’s been an up-and-down season for the Gaels (2-2) after opening as the preseason No. 4 team. They beat then-No. 6 DeMatha Catholic (Maryland) to jump to No. 3, then fell to top-ranked Mater Dei (California) and slid to No. 7, then all the way to No. 12 after losing at home to then-No. 16 Miami Central.

De La Salle fell all the way to No. 16 following Saturday’s loss. Mater Dei is still the top team, DeMatha Catholic is No. 14, and Miami Central is now the No. 5 team in the country.

Gorman opens Southwest League play with road game game against Bonanza on Saturday.
