Balanced Bulldogs beat Spartans

Centennial's Jamaal Evans threw for three touchdowns Friday, and Kayvon Miller accounted for three scores as the No. 5 Bulldogs defeated host Cimarron-Memorial, 44-8.

Centennial (6-1, 2-0 Northwest League) was balanced, with two running backs rushing for more than 100 yards and two receivers surpassing 90 yards, while holding the Spartans to 113 yards.

The Bulldogs opened the scoring with a 55-yard drive, culminating in a 1-yard run by Miller with 6:37 left in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, the Spartans (1-5, 0-1) managed to stop the Bulldogs' at the Cimarron 1-yard line, but a fumble in the end zone was recovered by Centennial's Paul Blair for a touchdown and a 12-0 lead.

On the next Bulldog drive, Savon Scarver picked up the first of his two touchdowns on a 21-yard catch and run, which combined with Evans 2-point conversion run for a 20-0 halftime lead.

The Bulldogs picked up right where they left off in the third quarter, with Miller scoring on a 7-yard run.

The Spartans then recovered a fumble by Miller near midfield and moved downfield, with Quintaz Wright, who alternated at quarterback during the drive as a running threat, taking it in from 1 yard for the touchdown.

The Bulldogs struck back on their next possession, however, with Miller taking a screen pass 12- ards for a touchdown. Scarver's second touchdown score, a 69-yard catch and run, finished the scoring in the fourth.

Quavion Arnold rushed for 109 yards on eight carries, and Miller added 105 yards on 21 carries for Centennial. Evans completed 13 of 18 passes for 242 yards.

Tyree Riley led the Spartans with 66 yards on 20 carries.
