Ashby’s bootleg helps White Pine edge Meadows

White Pine’s Joshua Ashby scored a 2-point conversion on a bootleg around the left side as the Bobcats (6-0, 4-0 2A Southern) rallied to hand The Meadows (4-2, 3-1) a 31-30 loss in Ely on Thursday.

White Pine overcame a 477-yard passing night by Meadows senior quarterback Garrett Gosse, who threw touchdown passes to Max Newman of 72, 63, 23 and 84 yards. Newman finished with 321 yards on seven receptions and Taylor Beck supplied 101 yards on five catches. Gosse was 19-for-40.

Ashby completed 15 of 26 passes for 260 yards and two touchdowns with an interception, and also ran for 55 yards and a score on 15 carries.

Devante Valencia had 87 yards and a touchdown on seven receptions and also scored on a 60-yard punt return in the fourth quarter. Levi Valdez had 88 yards receiving, including a 13-yard TD.
