Andrews, Fortenberry combine for seven TDs as Diamondbacks roll

Desert Oasis (6-2, 5-1 Souhtwest) scored touchdowns on its first five possessions and forced four turnovers to coast to a 53-22 road win over Sierra Vista (1-6, 1-4) on Friday.

Brandon Andrews and Devin Fortenberry combined to rush for 350 yards on 23 carries, with Andrews scoring on runs of 80, 48, 6, and 4 yards. Fortenberry had TD runs of 37 yards, 13 yards and 1 yard for Desert Oasis.

After trailing 14-0, Sierra Vista successfully executed a fake punt with Christian Cutolo hitting Latwoyn Pate, who raced down the right sideline for a 42-yard score to cut the lead to 14-6.

The Diamondbacks pushed the lead to 26-6, before the Mountain Lions answered with a 12-play, 75-yard drive capped by a 25-yard TD pass from Chad Tomlinson to Matt Murphy, to make it 26-14.

Desert Oasis tacked on three more rushing touchdowns, one each from Andrews and Fortenberry, and a 15-yard option keeper from quarterback Trevon Barnes, who passed for 130 yards and had two interceptions on defense, to boost the lead to 46-14 with 3:59 left in the third quarter.

Sierra Vista’s final score came on a 10-yard pass from Tomlinson to
Murphy, who finished with five receptions for 80 yards.

A 6-yard TD run by Andrews capped a five-minute, fourth-quarter drive for the game’s final margin.

Christian Corino recorded three sacks for the Diamondbacks.
