Afoa’s return sets tone as Falcons rout Rancho

Foothill's Connor Afoa returned the opening kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown, and the Falcons (1-1) cruised to a 37-0 victory over visiting Rancho (0-3).
After Foothill took a 9-0 lead on a safety late in the first quarter, Afoa ran back the ensuing free kick 63 yards for 16-0 lead and the Falcons were never threatened.
The Foothill defense held Rancho (0-3) to 78 total yards, and the Falcons’ offense accumulated 260 total yards.
Junior quarterback Parker Riggin lead Foothill’s attack by passing for 157 yards.
Riggin connected on a 24-yard TD pass to Tyrel Garner in the second quarter and hit Mikie Charlton for a 7-yard TD. Afoa also had a 1-yard TD for Foohill.
Twice the Falcons interecepted Rancho quarterback Brandon Pletsch to end any offensive threat. Pletch was limited to 13 yards on 3 completions.
