3 local football teams to play nationally ranked squads
Bishop Gorman may be the only nationally ranked team in Southern Nevada, but the No. 11 Gaels are not the only ranked team to be playing in the Las Vegas area this fall.
Three local teams will take on teams ranked in the USA Today Super 25, which was released in its entirety Tuesday.
Gorman will play No. 3 Mater Dei (California) on Aug. 24, and Faith Lutheran will play No. 8 Chandler (Arizona) on Sept. 8 at Liberty as part of the Polynesian Classic.
And for the second year in a row, a local team will play the top team in the country that is not local. Liberty will host No. 1 IMG Academy (Florida) on Sept. 7 in the Polynesian Classic. Gorman lost to top-ranked Mater Dei last season.
Bishop Gorman was ranked No. 1 from 2014-16 and won three mythical national championships. Mater Dei was named last year’s national champion.
